Celebrate National Fruit and Vegetable Month with your team! If you’ve been
trying to follow your doctor’s advice to “eat the rainbow,” June is a great month
to start with a healthy group event.
Fruits and Veggies are Good for You
It’s no surprise to learn that the American Heart Association recommends that
people eat more fruit and vegetables. Of course, they do! We all know that fruit
and veggies are good for us. These foods are naturally low in fat and sodium, and
are a good source of fiber. Fruits and veggies are hydrating, boost energy, and are good for your skin, hair, and nails. They can help prevent certain diseases, like
diabetes and heart disease. So what we’re saying here, is that fruit and veggies
make you look good and feel good. Not only that, but cooked or raw, they taste
delicious! But despite all this, most of us don’t eat nearly as much as we should.
Eat the Rainbow
Different from Skittles’ slogan, Taste the Rainbow, the term Eat the Rainbow refers to eating a variety of different colored fruits and veggies every day. Fruit and veggies provide a variety of vitamins and nutrients, and by getting an array of colors in your diet, you increase the number and quantity you’ll receive.
If you want to incorporate more colors into your diet, try to choose at least one
from each color group every day:
Blue/Purple – Eggplant, Turnips, Cabbage, Blueberries, Blackberries
Red – Tomatoes, Beets, Radish, Raspberries, Red Onion, Radicchio
Orange/Yellow – Peppers, Bananas, Sweet Potatoes, Oranges, Carrots, Squash
Green – Broccoli, Kale, Bok Choy, Lettuce, Turnip Greens, Green Beans
White/Light Green – Cauliflower, Asparagus, Celery, Leeks, Garlic, Fennel, Onions
